ONE of Shakespeare’s most notable pieces of work is performed at Titchfield Festival Theatre’s Great Barn next week.

Romeo and Juliet, the story of the two young lovers of Verona, is o is a symbol of passionate yet fated and tragic love.

Daniel Fox brings the play to the stage as part of Titchfield Festival Theatre's Bard at the Barn season, weaving the classic narrative with modern theatrical practice.

Set during the Troubles of Northern Ireland, two star-crossed lovers are caught in the crossfire of a conflict.

Shakespeare’s genius came from his ability to tell a story with a relatively simple outline (love and hate, life and death) which appeals to a wide audience. The love which drives the passion felt by the young couple cannot be separated from the hate which divides the two warring families – the Montagues and the Capulets – ultimately resulting in tragedy.

This production of Romeo and Juliet is a fitting finale to this year’s Bard at the Barn festival season and will have plenty to appeal to those who enjoy a traditional interpretation as well as people who like a contemporary take on this popular story.

The play will be performed on selected dates from Tuesday until September 7.
