THIS is the European premiere of the Chinese State Circus’s new production Yin Yang, currently on a four-month UK tour.

Yin Yang means “The interaction of two energies in a dynamic system of balance”.

This marvellous show is certainly “dynamic”, full of amazing “balance”, yet features much more than just “two energies”!

Four excellent musicians, seven delightful drummers and 30 thrilling acrobats combine to deliver a show of power, poise and agility.

There are no animals used in this circus, apart from the traditional and colourful Chinese “Lion” dance.

No English is spoken, the entertainment mainly visual; understood, appreciated and admired by anyone, any age, anywhere on the planet.

The atmosphere is a mix of masculine kung fu martial arts and muscular high-pole acrobatics, blended with the delicate feminine beauty of ballet and mesmeric multiple plate-spinning. The phenomenal juggling skills include drums, hats and parasols.

Audience participation is handled by a traditional Chinese Shaolin character. Again without a word of English, he coaxes four men from the audience to the stage, sits them on four stools, and then removes the stools, leaving the men perfectly balanced on each other.

Outstanding highlights from this dazzling show were eight girls riding a single bicycle, and the agile hoop-divers – somersaulting, leaping and jumping at high speed through triple hoops.

Catch this amazing traditional/modern mix of Chinese precision and daring at Salisbury City Hall from April 20-22 and Fareham’s Ferneham Hall from April 26-28.
