IT’S Christmas Eve 1989 in the East Village, New York City.

Mark Cohen, a nerdy lovestruck film-maker begins to make a documentary when the phone rings, it’s his ex-roommate turned landlord demanding rent.

Things don’t get any better when the electrics blow.

Rent tells the tale of a group of bohemians in the city that never sleeps struggling to get by.

Centrestage Productions Youth Theatre will be performing Rent, accompanied by Jonathan Larson’s life-affirming score, at The Point in Eastleigh , from Monday to Wednesday.

If that’s not enough, the young cast will be getting rehearsals under way for Joseph tomorrow.

They have less than a week to prepare with intense rehearsals, while performing Rent in the evening!

The famous Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colours comes to life in this delightful parable by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Set to an engaging profusion of musical styles, from country- western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ’n’ roll, this Old Testament tale runs from Thursday to Saturday.
