With many new faces stepping to the fore in CPYT's new show, the whole cast seemed enthused and energised by the experience.
From the satisfying opening song Food, Glorious Food there were some very nicely managed musical numbers, ably supported by Musical Director Nigel Finch and the talented orchestra.
Director Pete Harding brought his usual precision and affinity with the material to the proceedings, although the demise of Nancy and Sykes seemed slightly underpowered and rushed.
There were some excellent performances. Eddie Jones handled the title role with aplomb. Take a bow Holly Ind for a wonderfully comic turn as Mrs Sowerberry. And while even with stage make up Charlie Nicholas was patently too young and good looking for the role, his vocal performances as Fagin was spot on. The star, however, was undoubtedly Imogen Johnson as Nancy, perfectly capturing her feisty spirit and tragic vulnerability.
