It would be fair to say that this panto wasn’t entirely smooth running but boy did it make up for it in pace, double entendres and general hilarity as dastardly Captain Spongebag Roundpants (Howard Corbett) and his handsome rival, Captain Zac Sparrow (Daniel Knight) fought to pocket the gold.
Little did Sparrow know that he already had the goods in his love interest Molly Flinders (Jennifer Hampton). Superb acting and what a voice! It was as rich and bottomless as the deepest ocean. Then there was the dame, Stella Sparrow (Mike Porter) who had the sass of Alan Carr and the attitude of Jimmy. His line delivery was spot on and the numerous costumes just added to the fun.
A great set and well thought out lighting, especially the use of UV, enhanced what was already there but the icing on the cake was a live band.
It wasn’t refined but it was great fun and it deserved a full house.
