In the early 1950s the steam train seems finished, to be replaced by modern omnibuses! However, devious bus driver Crump (David Taylor) underestimates the efforts of local railway enthusiasts, led by Lady Chesterfield (dynamic Lesley Bates) and supported by Reverend Weech (enthusiastically engaging Alistair Faulkner), to save their beloved locomotive.

In an intimate venue, the challenge of depicting venues from the Station platform to inside the train, via living rooms and the pub, was successfully achieved with a fabulous set design and superb attention to detail, encompassing costumes and props and enhanced by super sound effects.

Colin Hayman’s outstanding direction (assisted by the playwright’s brother) ensured this was more than aesthetically pleasing; wonderful characterisations, universally strong performances (Roger Street and Stew Taylor were both superb) and excellent pace, comic timing and staging (bringing the audience into the centre of the action) all combined to make this an hilarious interactive theatrical experience!
