For their 2015 spring production The Worthy Players present Todd the Barber, a new interpretation of the gothic classic, Sweeney Todd.
It is at once a detective tale and a love story, as well as a trip into the sensational world of the early 19th century penny dreadful novel which was so loved by the early Victorian reading public.
Michael Edwards has adapted the story from the original 1850 novel The String of Pearls by James Malcolm Rymer.
The storyline closely follows that of the original and retains the authentic late 18th century atmosphere which Rymer tried to invoke.
The company promises no blood and only a little violence. Instead expect a roller-coaster ride of mystery, murder, love, and crime-detection, and of course a good helping of Mrs Lovett’s luscious veal pies!
Performances will take place at the Kings Worthy Jubilee Hall tonight and tomorrow and next weekend.
Tickets: theworthyplayers.co.uk or 07599 981922.
