This musical adaptation of the Ugly Duckling is a fun, funny and surprisingly moving rumination on the experience of being different. All three qualities were very much in supply in FMSYT's enjoyable new production.
The company continue to develop in leaps and bounds with ever more ambitious shows. Director Matt Swann has created a fresh and funny take on the show, ably supported by the excellent work of Musical Director Fiona Morris.
The action moved along nicely and was choreographed well. There were some nice little comic touches. The cast all worked hard and at its heart were some lovely performances. Elliott Swann brought a touch of Harry Potter to the awkward Ugly and his rendition of Different was genuinely touching. Grace Campbell and Cameron Hall were heart warming as his parents Ida and Drake. There were some nice supporting turns: Joseph Townsend-Bilton (Greylag) and Tristan Redwood (Bullfrog) made an impression.
