A WINCHESTER musicals society is gearing up for its next show packed with jazzy songs, wit and fun.

Following the success of Oh What a Lovely War in November 2014, the Winchester Musicals and Opera Society is bringing The Witches of Eastwick to the Theatre Royal’s stage.

It will continue the group’s run of critically-acclaimed performances, with director Lisbeth Rake at the helm, joined by musical director Martin Paterson and choreographer Suzanne Hall.

The musical was adapted from John Updike’s novel by John Dempsey with music by Dana Rowe.

Alexandra, Jane, and Sukie, the three witches, long for something to happen to change their mundane lives in the small gossipy town of Eastwick.

They share their longing for ‘all manner of man in one man’ and he arrives in the form of a charismatic, devilish Darryl Van Horne.

He teaches them how to develop and use the powers locked within them, scandalizing the town.

As these powers become more sinister and events spiral out of control, the women come to realise that Darryl’s influence is corrupting everyone he comes into contact with.

And only they have the solution.
