MUSIC Theatre South continue its tradition of bringing lesser known, brand new musical theatre to the region.

Their latest production ‘Dogfight’ is based on the movie of the same name, and comes to Southampton direct from a successful run in London and New York.

Set on the night before JFK was assassinated, the show follows the story of six newly trained US Marines, about to leave for Vietnam.

The night before they leave, they have one last night of freedom, and hold a ‘Dogfight’ – a cruel prom style party where the aim of the game is to find and bring the ugliest girl, the ugliest winning the pot.

However all does not go to plan as our hero ’Eddie’ falls in love with his date, before shipping out to fight in a war that a nation had mixed feelings about.

“We are really excited about local audiences getting the chance to see this piece,” explained Adam Myers who co-directs the production with Sam Quested.

“It’s by far one of the best things we have worked on so far, and I think it will give people in Southampton a chance to see something out of the ordinary in the intimate setting of The Stage Door, which is effectively our only local fringe theatre”.

Dogfight is at The Stage Door until September 19 with tickets available from £10 by calling 02380 711811.
