Imperfection by Peta Lily is the first of a season of cutting edge shows promoted by Theatre Royal Winchester that defy categorisation and embrace risk.

Peta Lily first achieved wide attention when she revolutionised mime by using it as a way for women to express themselves. She went on to develop powerful physical theatre shows and began to incorporate spoken word to engaging effect. She is now a published poet.

Her new show is a poetic stream of consciousness. In the course of an hour or so, Peta Lily darts from Dionysus to Stevie Smith to Charles Bukowski as she explores ‘the little broken moments in life, where life doesn’t quite measure up to how we’d like it to be and where getting through the day can seem heroic.’

She says she would like audiences to leave Imperfection ‘feeling energised, seeing things with fresher eyes and a skip in their step.’ She hopes they will ‘laugh a little and cry a bit as well.’

‘That’s what theatre’s for, isn’t it?’ says Peta Lily. ‘Just being human.’

Imperfection is at Winchester Discovery Centre on Thursday.
