IT’S time to nominate your nan!
The Daily Echo has teamed up with The Mayflower and the producers of the hit West End comedy The Ladykillers to give some of our lucky readers the chance to appear live on stage in the show.
If you’ve got a gregarious granny who would love her chance in the limelight, speak up now.
From the writer of Father Ted, Graham Linehan, comes a hilarious and thrilling new adaptation of the celebrated Ealing comedy, directed by Sean Foley (The Play What I Wrote).
Starring Michele Dotrice (Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em), Shaun Williamson (Extras and EastEnders) and Clive Mantle (Casualty and The Vicar of Dibley), a sweet little old lady, alone in her house, is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing.
Heist Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce.
The villains plot to involve her unwittingly in Marcus’s brilliantly conceived heist job.
The police are left stumped, but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs W is alone with five desperate men.
But who will be forced to face the music?
A key part of the production is the concert which Professor Marcus and his associates are forced into giving Mrs Wilberforce and her unknowing friends which bookends the interval of the production.
Mrs Wilberforce’s friends, described in the script as a “swarm of old ladies”, consists of various members of the company including stage managers and understudies, in addition to four genuine local ladies at each venue on the tour.
The chosen four will be dressed in costume and be on stage for approximately ten minutes before the curtain falls on Act One and five minutes into Act Two.
They just need to be available for the entire run from October 15 to 20.
