ON Frankie Valli’s 80th birthday, his sparkling career with the Four Seasons was faithfully recreated by this wonderful show.
Dino Buttarazzi on lead guitar, Martin Peat on bass guitar and Scott Walker on drums provide the distinctive Four Seasons harmony vocals.
Playing Frankie Valli, Robin Maughan is a charismatic and mesmeric frontman, hitting those spine-tingling falsetto notes with power and panache.
Backed by rich keyboards, a stylish three-piece horn section, atmospheric lighting and overhead projections, this is a quick, slick, tight show.
Highlights included the doo-wop a cappella Blue Moon, the passionately delivered My Eyes Adored You, and the classic I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
The funky title song from Grease, the intelligent lyrics of Working My Way Back To You Babe, and the poppy perfection of Rag Doll are reinforced by the moving Fallen Angels and the hooky Big Man In Town, Dawn, and December ’63 (Oh What A Night), representing a terrific back catalogue.
The feelgood finale – featuring the iconic Jersey Boys red jackets – included the singalong Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like A Man, Bye-Bye Baby, and the catchy humit- all-the-way-home Let’s Hang On.
If you’re a fan of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, catch this brilliant show at King’s Theatre Southsea on May 31 and Fareham’s Ferneham Hall on July 31.
