A KNIFE-WIELDING robber stole cash from a Southampton shop in an early-morning raid.

Police have launched an investigation after the terrifying incident at Oakley Road Stores and are asking for the public's help to track down the robber.

The man walked into the shop at about 7am yesterday and ordered staff to put money into an orange bag but was challenged by a member of staff and fled with about £100 cash.

It comes just hours after a pedestrian was robbed at knifepoint in a separate incident in Mount Pleasant Road, Southampton.

The Oakley Road Stores robber was described as being white, aged 19-23, about five feet ten or 11 inches tall, and of average build with blonde hair.

Officers say he ran from the scene and climbed over a gate on Percy Road.

He was wearing a black hat with eye holes pulled down over his face, a blue hip-length jacket, light grey unbranded jogging bottoms, black Nike trainers with a white tick and white soles, and had bright yellow gloves on his hands.

Detective Constable Mark Bradley said: “This incident took place in the morning, so there may have been people around who witnessed it.

“We have been given quite a detailed description of the man responsible.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a man matching this description in the area before and after the incident, particularly in the Percy Road area as the store owner saw the man stood at the junction with this road prior to the incident.

“The man was wearing distinctive yellow gloves, so if you have found a pair of yellow Marigold-type gloves in your garden or in the areas near to where the incident took place please contact police.”
