Inspector Wexford actor George Baker visited Southampton to sign copies of his new book A Cook for All Seasons. In the celebrity cookbook Baker presented more than 100 recipes from around the world and wrote anecdotes about the stories surrounding them.
Many youngsters and adults got together to raise money for Children in Need - a few of them pictured here. More than £21 million was raised for Children in Need that year.

Margaret Thatcher visited Berlin a day after the Berlin Wall began to come down. Germany was unified for the first time in 28 years.
November 21
Nigel Martyn became Britain’s first £1 million goalkeeper when he transferred to Crystal Palace from Bristol Rovers. He was there for seven years.
