THE COUNTRY entered a period of national mourning following the Queen’s death this week - but how will this be marked in Hampshire?

Queen Elizabeth sadly died on Thursday, aged 96, after a 70-year reign.

Now councils in and around Southampton will be marking her death with the reading of the proclamation this weekend.

The proclamation of his Kingship will take place in Southampton, Eastleigh, Fareham and Gosport this weekend.

The first reading of the proclamation will take place at St James’s Palace.

It will then be read by the High Sheriff at Winchester Great Hall on September 11 at 1pm, one hour before it is read by Mayors of Districts and Boroughs across the country.

This is everything you need to know ahead of the reading.

Southampton

The proclamation will take place on the Civic Centre steps on Sunday, September 11 at 2pm.

Lord Mayor Jacqui Rayment will conduct the reading.

Eastleigh

The time for the Eastleigh Borough Council proclamation currently stands as around 2pm on Sunday.

It will be held at Leigh Road Recreation Ground in Eastleigh.

New Forest

The Chairman of New Forest District Council will give the proclamation at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst on Sunday at 2pm.

Members of the public are invited to attend. 

Deputy Lieutenant Hallam Mills Esq DL will invite Cllr Alan O’Sullivan, Chairman of New Forest District Council, to read the Proclamation.

This weekend, the offices at Appletree Court are being opened from 11am to 3pm for the Book of Condolence.  

Fareham

The Mayor of Fareham will be reading the proclamation at the Performance Podium in West Street, Fareham on Sunday at 2pm.

Suggested dress code is black or dark clothing.

Gosport

Gosport will formally mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and accession of King Charles III with a proclamation ceremony at 2pm on Sunday.

It will take place in front of the Town Hall and coincide with similar ceremonies in towns and cities across the country following the national proclamation at St James's Palace the previous day.
