A LAMBORGHINI driver was called out by police for not having a front number plate.

Hampshire police officers issued a ticket and DVLA report to the driver in Wickham on Monday, May 22.

In a sarcastic tweet, Hampshire Roads Policing Unit said: “Spare a thought for this poor soul stopped in Wickham today.

“Apparently, it is impossible to fit a number plate to the front of his Lambo and worse it will obstruct the oil cooler. No. plates are about accountability for how people drive and this applies to all.”

Winchester police shared the post on Facebook, directing viewers to information on how number plates should be displayed on the government's website.

Drivers could be fined up to £1,000 and their vehicles would fail MOT tests for having incorrectly displayed number plates.

The current vehicle registration number format was introduced in 2021 and consists of:

  • Two letters (referring to the region in the country where the vehicle was originally registered)
  • Two numbers (which show when it was issued)
  • Three random letters

Number plates must also:

  • Be made from a reflective material;
  • Display black characters on a white background (front plate);
  • Display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate);
  • Have no background pattern;
  • Be marked to show who supplied the number plate;
  • Be marked with a British Standard number.
