Witnesses in Totton watched on as a man was ‘dragged’ from his flat and arrested by police on suspicion of assault.

Those working in Rumbridge Street have said they were shocked as they watched the events unfold on Wednesday afternoon.

A worker from a business on Rumbridge Street said that around five or six police cars and an ambulance descended on the scene at around 3.15pm on Wednesday, April 10.

Meanwhile, employees at another business on Rumbridge Street said they saw police "drag" a man from a block of flats next to Charcoal Grill.

Neighbours living on the Totton road said that a man had been assaulted inside his home by another man who lived in a flat just a few doors down.

A neighbour who witnessed the incident said: "I never pay much attention to what’s going on as there is often a lot of noise coming from that house.

"The officer came and asked me if I’d seen anything and according to him someone was assaulted inside the property.

“I had not seen the commotion so there was not much that I could offer the officers."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We were called just after 1:30pm today to reports of a man in his 40s being assaulted at an address on Rumbridge Street in Totton.

“The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

“A 35-year-old man from Totton has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and remains in police custody at this time."

The large amount of emergency vehicles blocked much of Rumbridge Street and caused delays for drivers passing by the scene.

After speaking with residents and following out their enquires the last police vehicle left the scene at around 4pm.
