The University of Winchester has over 6,400 students studying a wide selection of courses ranging from Bachelor Honours degrees and Foundation degrees through to professional development, postgraduate Masters and Research. Programmes of study span the arts, humanities, social sciences, business education, health and social care.

Winchester has a long history, having been established in 1840 and combines this heritage with innovative teaching and learning. In the most recent RAE (Research Assessment Exercise), 75 per cent of the University’s research was considered internationally recognised.

Just recently, Winchester became the first university in the UK to receive five-star accreditation for excellence from the British Quality Foundation. In 2010, the University was shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Leadership and Management Team’ in the Times Higher Leadership and Management Awards and for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development and ‘Excellence and Innovation in the Arts’, in the Times Higher Education Awards.

The University prides itself on its excellent facilities. The award-winning University Centre encompasses the Student Union and a range of other facilities. There is also the Winchester Sports Stadium offering and Olympic standard 400m eight-lane track and an all-weather sports pitch. Last year, a new Performing Arts Building opened with six performing arts studios offering the latest technology for student productions. A £6 million state-of-the art Learning and Teaching Building is due to open in September 2012.
