Round the Island Race with the Island Sailing Club

The annual J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race which is organised by the Island Sailing Club took place on the 19th June. With over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors it is one of the largest yacht races in the world

What’s the meaning of this?

This is the second year that skipper Duncan Thomson has entered the race on Grand Panjandrum. Duncan states that his crew complement has a tendency to “drink all the beer and eat all the food” despite ‘Panjandrum’ having a listing in the Oxford Dictionary as meaning “a person who has or claims to have a great deal of authority or influence.” Perhaps it is time to pull rank Duncan?

A dream for Hinds

Current record holders take line honours

The two existing course record holders in the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race have again triumphed today as IDEC, the multihull driven by Francis Joyon crossed the finish line at 09.34.05 - so her rounding was in 04.24.05 (her course record still stands at 3.08.29). She was closely followed by the four Extreme 40s led by Oman Sail, The Wave Muscat 09.37.33, then Oman Sail Masirah 09.37.57, Team Metherell 09.44.10 and then Ecover at 09.48.45.

Round the Island fun begins

The Island sailing Club hosted the 2010 Race Press Conference at midday today. The sun shone, the media arrived in their droves, along with some of the best-known racing teams in the world, charity representatives and celebrities from the world of sport and TV.
