VANDALS are being blamed after 40 Liberal Democrat signs mysteriously disappeared from a Hampshire town just hours before the Tory leader arrived in the county.
Eastleigh candidate Chris Huhne has reported the ongoing thefts of signs to police but says he was appalled when many of those in Botley disappeared ahead of David Cameron’s visit to Hampshire.
Mr Huhne said: “I don’t think the person doing this has much of a democratic instinct. We live in a free country where people have a right to put up signs and vote whichever way they want.
“To me this seems like a dirty tricks campaign.”
Conservative Maria Hutchings said they were having a similar problem with posters being ripped down in Botley.
